Michael Vick has been out of the NFL since 2006. He was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, sentenced to 23 months in federal prison and suspended indefinitely by the NFL. At one time Vick was the highest paid player in the NFL. Now Vick has a second chance in the league. He signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles worth 1.6 million in the first year, with the option of a second year worth 5.2 million. Vick can also earn 3 million in incentives over the two years.
Vick can take part in preseason activities and will be eligible for the last two-preseason games. When the regular season begins he can participate in all programs except for games. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he would consider Vick for reinstatement by Week 6.
